Growing up in Saskatoon Saskatchewan (in the Canadian prairies), part of every winter was going for a night-time outdoor skate beside the historic hotel Bessborough. The temperatures were frigid and you'd hurriedly tie your skates with frozen fingers. Getting moving was imperative or you'd quickly get chilled to the bone. Wobbly at first and then slowly getting the hang of it. The beauty of the night, the magic of the park and the crisp cold could make you feel nostalgic for the moment even as it was happening. And the promise of a steaming hot cocoa at the end made it all worthwhile.
